Special Town Board Meeting May 28th, 2024

The special meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Mount Hope was held at the Mount Hope Town Hall on 1706 Route 211 West, Otisville NY on May 28, 2024 at 2:00pm with the following present: Supervisor Paul Rickard, Councilmember Chris Furman, Councilmember Keri Carey, Councilmember Amanda Davis & Town Clerk Kathleen Myers.
NOT PRESENT: Councilmember Jim Jennings
OFFICIALS PRESENT: Police Chief Mike Maresca

Town Supervisor Rickard opened the meeting following the Pledge of Allegiance at 2:00pm. Legal notice is on the table.

MOTION TO APPOINT HEIDI PHILLIPS AS DEPUTY TOWN CLERK:
MOTION offered Councilmember Davis 2nd Councilmember Carey to appoint Heidi Phillips as Deputy Town Clerk effective May 31, 2024. All in favor – Davis, Carey, Rickard, Furman; motion carried.

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN BOARD OF THE TOWN OF MOUNT HOPE REQUESTING that Chang Zhu be able to take the competitive civil service examination and be placed on the eligible civil service list for employment as a full-time police officer for the Mount Hope police department (Assembly Bill A10403 and Senate Bill S09707): (Read by Town Clerk)
WITNESSETH
WHEREAS, Chang Zhu currently is a non-competitive Police Officer for the Town of Mount Hope Police Department;
WHEREAS, Chang Zhu is unable to take the competitive civil service exam for Police Officer due to his age; and
WHEREAS, Chang Zhu has unique abilities and qualifications that are a benefit to the residents of the Town of Mount Hope, County of Orange; and
WHEREAS, in support of this request, the New York State Senate has introduced Senate Bill No. S09707 and the New York State Assembly has introduced Assembly Bill No. A10403; now therefore it be
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Mount Hope requests the State Legislature adopt Senate Bill No. S09707 and Assembly Bill No. A10403 authorizing Chang Zhu to take the competitive civil service examination and be placed on the eligible civil service list for employment as a full-time police officer for the Mount Hope police department; and it be further
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Clerk of Town of Mount Hope is hereby directed to forward copies of this Resolution to Home Rule Counsel, Assembly Post Office, 210 Legislative Office Building, Albany, New York 12247 and to Home Rule Counsel, Senate Post Office, 208 Legislative Office Building, Albany, New York 12247.
